Cannot boot with XFS_WANT_CORRUPTED_GOTO error

Environment

  • CentOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7

Issue

  • System halts during boot after showing:
XFS: Internal error XFS_WANT_CORRUPTED_GOTO at line 1596 of file fs/xfs/xfs_alloc.c. Caller xfs_free_extent+0h4n/0xyuU [xfs]
XFS (dm-2): Corruption of in-memory data detected. Shutting down filesystem
XFS (dm-2): Please umount the filesystem and rectify the problem(s)
  • System cannot boot due to corrupted XFS root filesystem

Resolution

  1. The system boot fails and go to emergency mode
  2. Check the list of folder /dev/mapper/
  3. Repair xfs with command:
# xfs_repair -L /dev/mapper/centos-root       or
# xfs_repair -L /dev/mapper/rhel-root
  • Exit the emergency mode and boot the system normally.
